Guide / photographers, honestly

Business management software for photographers

Photography studios run on galleries, bookings and invoices — most of which is CRM territory, not ours. The honest exception: when prints, albums and products sell at volume, stock becomes real.

The key facts

  • The studio core — galleries, bookings, client communication — is CRM/scheduling territory; BSimple does not claim it.
  • Where a stock record matters: print labs in-house, framed products, album components, studio merchandise sold at volume.
  • What that record needs: product variants, purchase orders for lab stock, orders-to-invoice with the Xero/MYOB handoff.
  • BSimple fits the product-selling studio — from $180/month (AUD), free to trial — and we will say plainly when it does not fit.
  • Context: the full inventory system holds the wider system, this page one stop in it.

What photographers actually need — honestly

A photography studio's daily software is client-shaped: galleries and proofing, bookings and scheduling, contracts and invoices for sessions. Dedicated tools for photographers do this well, and BSimple does not claim it — no gallery hosting, no booking calendar, no session workflows. A studio whose needs stop there should buy the photographer tools, not business inventory software.

The boundary crossings are worth naming, because they are where the record becomes real: a studio that prints and frames in-house holds materials (paper, frames, mats) with quantities and reordering; one that sells physical products at volume — albums, prints, merchandise at markets or through wholesale — holds product stock with costs and margins; one that rents or manages equipment wants issue-and-return history. Those are inventory jobs, and they are the only part this page can help with.

Where BSimple fits a studio

We build BSimple, so weigh that. For the studio selling products: live quantities per product and variant, purchase orders for lab materials raised from reorder levels, orders flowing to invoice with the Xero or MYOB handoff, and counts from a phone browser. For the equipment side: gear as tracked assets with locations and issue history — who has which lens, when it left, when it returned. All on one record, from $180/month (AUD), everything in the core plans.

What it does not do: galleries, bookings, editing pipelines or client proofing. If the studio is sessions-first with a handful of print sales through the lab, the photographer tools plus your accountant's invoicing remain the honest answer. What a business management system is and the business-management accounting view frame the difference between client tools and the operations record.

The honest test

Count the questions you ask weekly that a stock record should answer: how many 8x12 prints in matte stock, which albums are assembled, where is the second body. If the answers live in memory and the memory has failed once at a cost — a reprinted order, a re-booked shoot, a lost body — trial the record with one product line. If your questions are all client-shaped instead, the photographer tools are your answer, and we are happy to have said so.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does BSimple handle galleries and bookings?

No — galleries, proofing, bookings and client communication are photographer-tool territory, and BSimple does not claim them. BSimple is the stock and order record for studios selling physical products at volume.

Can BSimple track our print and frame stock?

Yes — materials and finished products with live quantities, purchase orders for lab stock from reorder levels, orders through to invoicing with the Xero or MYOB handoff, and counts from any phone browser.

Can we track studio equipment too?

Yes — gear runs as tracked assets: locations, issue-to-staff as recorded movements, and history per item. The body that left the studio is a query, not a mystery.

What does BSimple cost?

Plans start at $180/month (AUD) with everything in the core plans. The trial is the full product on your own products and gear — free, no card, an afternoon.
